180 miles is a long way in one day; so I settled for 99. The plan was to climb over the blackdown hills and head via Chard and Axminster down onto the South Coast; hang a right and travel along the Jurassic coast to Exeter. I am sure that the naming of the Jurassic coast has nothing to do with finding fossils and more to do with the ups and downs like the back of a Stegosaurus! Got to Exeter in good time; however struggled the last 30 miles into a strong head wind. Dark thoughts were going through my mind as I had seriously underestimated my fluid requirements and whether Cheese and onion pasties, snicker bars and bananas were the right fuel for endurance cycling! Due to the time taken to get home; the family had gone to a BBQ without me, so I had to cycle an extra 7 miles; meaning I managed to break the ton! Although I am not sure that 6 pints of bitter at the BBQ is an effective rehydration strategy.
